Frequently Asked Questions

+ What is ISIC?

The International Sensory Integration Congress (ISIC) is an evolution of the European Sensory Integration Congress (ESIC), previously held in Portugal (2011), Finland (2014), England (2015), and Austria (2017). To reflect the growing worldwide interest in Ayres Sensory Integration, the congress expanded beyond Europe to become ISIC, with the first meeting held in South Africa in 2018. Bringing world-class research and scholarship to therapists across the continents, ISIC will be held in Hong Kong (Asia) in 2019, the U.S. (North America) in 2020, and Brazil (South America) in 2021.

+ What is special about ISIC2020?

ISIC2020 marks the culmination of the Ayres Sensory Integration 2020 Vision. This initiative was established at ESIC 2014 to commemorate Dr Ayres’ 100th birthday in the year 2020. (For more information about the ASI2020vision, see

The Collaborative for Leadership in Ayres Sensory Integration (CLASI) is proud to be the host organization for ISIC 2020. CLASI is a nonprofit organization founded by Dr. Susanne Smith Roley and Dr. Zoe Mailloux, both first-generation students of Dr. Ayres. ISIC2020 will be held in Redondo Beach, California, USA. Dr. Ayres was born, raised, and educated in California, and she conducted her therapy practice and research studies in Southern California. Therefore, it seemed fitting to commemorate her 100th birthday in Southern California with an international congress focused on research, assessment, and intervention. In addition, an all-day birthday celebration will take place near the beach on July 18, 2020.

+ Where and when exactly will ISIC2020 occur?

ISIC2020 will be held July 15-17, 2020 at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Redondo Beach, CA. The A. Jean Ayres 100th birthday celebration will be held on July 18 at a venue nearby.

+ How much will the conference registration cost?

CLASI aims to keep the registration fees as low as possible to make the event accessible to therapists worldwide. It is expected that the full conference (2.5 days) fee will range from $400 to $600 (USD). There will be lower fees set for early-bird registration, as well as student and group rates.

+ How much will accommodation be?

If you wish to stay at the conference venue, CLASI has a negotiated a room rate of about $240 per night (maximum of 4 people per room) with the Crowne Plaza Hotel.

There are also many other accommodation options nearby, including hotels, hostels, and Airbnbs. Generally speaking, accommodation close to the beach will be pricier than accommodation more inland.

+ Which airport is closest to ISIC2020 (never too early to start checking airfares!)?

Los Angeles International (LAX) is a 20 minute drive from the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Redondo Beach. Long Beach Airport is another option, and is approximately a 30 minute drive from the hotel.
