In this 3-part series, the learner will be introduced to the Ayres Sensory Integration®(ASI) evidence-based frame of reference including an overview of ASI theory, evaluation and intervention.

These introductory modules are open to all persons interested in learning about ASI, without restriction. It is recommended for:
Occupational Therapists prior to beginning the CLASI Certificate Program to learn more about the terminology, current research, and essential elements of the use of ASI as a frame of reference
Consumers who wish to know more about ASI on behalf of their family members, to be further educated on what constitutes the ASI evidence-based approach to intervention.
Professionals who wish to better understand ASI terminology and methods, important for making appropriate referrals for additional evaluation and possible intervention
Administrators or legislators who wish to know more about supporting or funding ASI as a proven method of intervention used primarily by occupational therapists

Learners will develop critical awareness of the theoretical underpinnings of sensory integration as a frame of reference contextualized within occupational therapy practice.
Learners will identify the seminal contributions of Dr. A. Jean Ayres Ph.D., OT to the development of sensory integration for us in clinical practice.
Learners will explain the way in which sensory integration is fundamental to human adaptation, engagement and participation in needed and desired occupations.
Part 2:
Learners will develop critical awareness of formal and informal assessments including standardized performance measures, questionnaires, and observations.
Learners will identify various sensory measures recommended to support a better understanding of the client’s sensory integration strengths and challenges.
Learners will summarize the way in which sensory integration and praxis performance measures inform clinical decision-making.
Part 3:
Learners will develop critical awareness of the structural and process elements of the manualized ASI intervention method.
Learners will summarize the active ingredients of change involved in the ASI intervention method.
Learners will identify the way in which the therapist facilitates an adaptive response in the client based on interpretation of assessment data.
